Course Overview

Marine Radio Operator Permit (MP)

A Marine Radio Operator Permit is required to:

  • operate radiotelephone stations aboard certain vessels that sail the Great Lakes
  • operate radiotelephone stations aboard vessels of more than 300 gross tons
  • operate vessels which carry more than six passengers for hire in the open sea or any tidewater area of the United States
  • operate certain aviation radiotelephone stations and certain coast radiotelephone stations

Qualifications

To qualify for a Marine Radio Operator Permit you must:

  • be a legal resident of (or otherwise eligible for employment in) the United States
  • be able to receive and transmit spoken messages in English
  • pass the Element 1 exam

Term of License

A Marine Radio Operator Permit is issued for the holder’s lifetime.

Complete the Course

  • Study the question pool.
  • Take the Sub-element practices quizzes or skip to the Final Practice Quiz.
  • Pass the Final Practice Quiz with a 90% or higher to unlock the Final Exam.
  • Create your FCC User Profile and get your FRN (FCC Registration Number (FRN) is needed to process your license)
  • Call (866) 293-9308 or email info@uscaptainstraining.com to schedule your Web Conference.
  • During the Web Conference we:
    • Check your identity
    • Administer the Final Exam
    • File your Proof of Passing Certificate
    • Email you a simple form to gather your information so we can submit your license application

Get your Marine Radio Operator Permit Official Copy

Your form submission data drops into our database. We put the data into the proper file format and submit it to the FCC electronically. They process your application and send us a response file telling us that it is granted. We send you an email that says “click on the link below to access the official copy of your license with your FRN and Password” and attach very specific instruction on how to download the official copy of your license from the FCC website.
